It’s summer workshop time for the Arkansas Activities Association, and some major news affecting northeast Arkansas came out early on day one of the meetings Tuesday in Little Rock. Following an appeal by the Little Rock School District, the AAA announced a change in the 2020-2022 reclassification numbers for the new Little Rock Southwest High School (opening in August 2020). With that change, Jonesboro High School, which would have moved up to the state’s highest classification, now stays where they are (6A football, and 5A in all other sports.) Arkansas Democrat-Gazette high school beat writer Jeremy Muck joined “The Drive with Brad Bobo” Tuesday with more on that story other notes from the workshop.
