“The Drive with Brad Bobo” steps into the world of sports medicine on Friday thanks to a visit with Mark O’Neal. A native of Russellville, he was drawn to athletic training in his days at the University of Arkansas. He took a job in the Cardinals organization in 1998, then became the head athletic trainer for the Cubs in 2004, before returning to his alma mater in 2019 as head trainer for men’s basketball and golf through last December. On Tuesday, Mark visited with area high school coaches for a discussion on specialization in youth and high school sports from a medical standpoint. We also hear about his time in Major League Baseball (including his time around the McGwire/Sosa home run race in 1998).
